  • Caleb is 11 days old now. The past week has been quite interesting and I think I’ve learned a lot as far as what some of his cries mean, how much he needs to eat, why he won’t sleep. I know that’s not the end of it. I’m barely brushing the surface. But it’s a start.

I am catching up on more sleep, as my mom was really generous and helped me hire someone to take care of me and Caleb for the postpartum month. The postpartum nanny cooks 5 meals for me daily and also take cares of Caleb 24 hours. During the night, she will bring him to me to feed and then help me put him to bed so I can get some much needed rest. She has a lot of experience with newborns, so it’s really making my transition into mommy hood a lot easier. I’m SO grateful to have someone help me. Even with help I feel exhausted at times, I can’t imagine if I was doing this on my own, being a new mother and not really knowing WHAT I’m doing.

But then again, as tired as I am, I love taking care of him. I feel so much love every time I look into his face. And I’m just amazed this little guy is a part of me and Seb.

It’s almost time for his 4:00pm feeding. So I’m off to wake the little munchkin. Here are a few pictures from the last few days.

  • Oh man, that food looks goooooood!!  You are SOOOOOO lucky to have someone help you afterbirth.  I was completely solo.  Hubby was working.  I could barely move since I had a difficult birth and blood transfusion.  I had no time or energy to cook either.  So consider it an extreme fortune to have someone by your side to help.  Thank god!  Sounds like she is doing a good job : )

  • @babyching9 - yeah, i remember you said you were on your own.  I can't imagine how hard that must me.  I have help and I still feel overwhelmed at times. But you did a great job.  And it's so awesome to see you guys are doing well now!

  • Congrats!  He's adorable!

  • OMG congratulations!! look at that face... my goodness, he's a handsome little fella! the photo from the previous entry of him just born is just too precious. how can he be so cute as a newborn? :) yes, enjoy the postpartum care and get a lot of rest! so looking forward to all the baby entries now!

  • Congrates!!!

I also had a post-partum nanny and it was worth every penny spent.  Also...I swear that's why I didn't drop the baby weight as fast...because she would also cook so much for me too!

  • I'm glad you have someone to help you!  :)

  • @wedBliss - thanks~~~  yeah, I know.. before birth I totally thought I'd be able to do it on my own.  No way!

  • @joesee22 - Are you Chinese?  I wonder if Korean of Japense have postpartum nannies too.  My nanny, Lisa, she cooks so much most of the time I have to take a break inbetween and then finish a hour or so later.  She cooks a lot.  At first I was worried when she suggested she take care of Caleb at night.  So for the 1st week, I still kept him in the master with us.  But as the week went by and I watched her... I realized she's a pro at this.  And I started trusting her more seeing that she is gentle and really knows what the baby wants.

  • @My_Enigma_Heart - Yup.  Hubby and I are chinese.  Koreans doe have partpartum care centers where they go to have 24 hour help.  Not sure about Japanese.  It's normal to worry about how well a stranger can care for your baby.  I felt that way too.  But I've realized that having a "professional" to show you how to take care of a baby is very reassuring.  Are you planning to continue with a nanny after the 1 month?  We did...it is worth every penny!

  • @joesee22 - Yes, I am.  But I'm having a hard time trying to figure out "how" to even begin looking for a nanny.  I would like a live in Chinese nanny maybe for 5 days or 6 days out of the week.  Her duties would be to care for baby and to make 1 meal (dinner).  Should I put up an ad in the Chinese paper?  Go through an agency?  Referrals aren't working out really well, cause all the good ones are taken, and no one has anybody else to refer.  The going rate for a live in nanny isn't low either... I've asked people who have one, and most of them pay anywhere from $1600 - $2000.  How did you go about finding yours?  I've also heard people sending out their newborn out to kindercare.  I do think Kindercare is safe as far as the care cause there are multiple teachers there keeping an eye on each other, so there's no funny business.  But I feel all the children there will bring a lot of germs and bactaria to an infant.  So much to think about.  I have nightmares about caregivers dropping my kid or accidentally hurting them.

  • @My_Enigma_Heart - We found ours through an agency.  Ours used to live with us 6 days a week and cooked dinner 3 days a week.  Now that Matthew is older, we have reduced it to 5 days a week with no reduction in pay.  We pay within that range.  Yes, it is more expensive than daycare but it is worth the extra expense.  I don't have to worry about rushing home by a certain time to pick Matthew up from a daycare or him picking up germs every month.  Your other option is to ask your postpartum nanny if she is willing to become a regular nanny.  You might be able to negotiate with her.   We got lucky and found a nanny that worked on our 1st try.  Our current nanny started working for us when Matthew was 3 weeks old.  She overlapped a week with our postpartum so that she would have time to adjust and learn Matthew's particulars.  How did you mom find your postpartum nanny?

  • @joesee22 - We found our nanny through an agency as well.  Our current nanny only does the post partum month, I'm sure part of the reason is also because it's higher pay.  So I'll have to ask around, look up ads, or go through an agency.  Wish me luck!  Or you could just let me have yours.  ;)

  • This won't actually have effect, I suppose like this. 9 3 LINK. Quite useful information, thanks for your post. LINK site LINK. I fully tie in with everything you have printed. link 9 web. It can't work as a matter of fact, that is what I consider.
